The Art of Possibility: Transforming Professional and Personal Life: Rosamund Stone Zander, Benjamin Zander: Books

Amazon.com: The Art of Possibility: Transforming Professional and Personal Life (9780142001103): Rosamund Stone Zander, Benjamin Zander: Books.

I’ve started looking through this book tonight. On the first page, they write, “Our premise is that many of the circumstances that seem to block us in our daily lives may only appear to do so based on a framework of assumptions we carry with us. Draw a different frame around the same set of circumstances and new pathways come into view. Find the right framework and extraordinary accomplishment becomes an everyday experience. Each chapter of this book presents a different facet of this approach and describes a new practice for bringing possibility to life.” I thinkI mentioned before how this is very similar to Langer’s discussion of mindfulness in learning.

They were approached by Harvard Business School to write this book for a business and lay audience. They write, “The arts can break new ground here, bringing human consciousness to bear on these flows of product and capital, energizing our interpersonal connections, and opening new doors for invention and practice…Art, after all, is about rearranging us, creating surprising juxtapositions, emotional openings, startling presences, flight paths to the eternal” (Zander & Zander, 2000, p.2). (Good words for us to incorporate.)
